Mario Balotelli had his late finish stopped by Eldin Jakupovic.
Mario Balotelli just cannot catch a break for Liverpool at the moment. The Italian has scored just once since his £16 million arrival and was in hot water after exchanging shirts with Real Madrid defender Pepe in the Champions League this week.
He actually did not put in a bad performance for Liverpool this afternoon, but he could not grab the goal to go woth his performance as Liverpool drew 0-0 with Hull City at Anfield.
He had chances. Indeed Balotelli always does. He had two that stood out, while he also found himself booked in the game for a challenge on Alex Bruce.
But it was a moment in the final minute that has tongues wagging. Philippe Coutinho played in a sublime pass on the outside of his right boot into the path of Balotelli. The Italian just needed a solid connection to take the three points for Liverpool, silence the doubters and get over that Premier League hump.
Unfortunately that did not happen.
He just did not get enough on the ball to force it home while it did not help that Hull City keeper Eldin Jakupovic made a great save to deny him. It was certainly not in the same league as the miss against QPR - which was undoubtedly poor.
Nonetheless, giving the timing of the moment, Balotelli was devastated not to give Liverpool the win, as was visible on the face of this mercurial striker.
However, there is a positive to take from this. sure Balotelli is not putting the ball in the back of the net but his performance was much improved. Plus, look at the pictures. Balotelli is often accused of not caring - it was clear he was devastated at not being able to grab the winning goal in front of his new fans.
If he maintains that attitude the goals will soon start to flow...
