Both players started the Premier League game against Manchester City at the Boleyn Ground on Saturday and proved key in the Hammers’ 2-1 win.
Midfielder Song won three tackles and as many interceptions, as he gave a good account of himself in defensive midfield. Meanwhile, forward Valencia provided the assist for West Ham’s opening goal against City with a cut-back to Morgan Amalfitano.
Owen was impressed with the West Ham duo and took to social networking site Twitter to hail them.
West Ham pretty impressive today. Song was brilliant and Valencia could be a quality signing. Class goal from Silva but City 2nd best today.— michael owen (@themichaelowen) October 25, 2014
Song and Valenia both are summer signings for West Ham. While the former joined the London club from Barcelona on a season-long loan deal, the latter moved from Pachuca for a reported transfer of £12 million.
The 2-1 home win against City on Saturday sees West Ham remain fourth in the Premier League table with 16 points from nine matches, a point behind the Citizens.
