Liverpool morning update: Early team news; valid question asked regarding Balotelli

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Liverpool

Liverpool take on Hull City at Anfield on Saturday, with some big decisions needing to be made by Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.

In early team news, the BBC reports that Rodgers has to decide whether to persevere with Mario Balotelli, who continues to disappoint since his summer move. Trio Daniel Sturridge, Jon Flanagan and Mamadou Sakho all remain on the side-lines.

As for Hull, they are without the injured Nikica Jelavic and Michael Dawson, while goalkeepers Steve Harper and Allan McGregor are both unavailable.

In other news, former footballer Barry Horne believes Balotelli is already running out of chances at Liverpool.

Writing for the Daily Post, Horne said, “The question that has to be asked is if Balotelli is so brilliant and worth the effort, why has been let go by both the Milan clubs and Manchester City…”

It is a valid question, and one that may never be fully answered; but if the Italian forward does not start producing the goods on a consistent basis sooner rather than later, that £16million may look anything but the bargain it was previously hailed as.
