Liverpool striker has recently come in for criticism. But once Rodgers figures out how to best use him he should start firing.
You go up to order your drink at a pub or bar, you ask for what you want and the barman responds, politely informing you that the drink you wanted is not available. You might have already even got your money out ready to pay for the drink you wanted. It was affordable and top quality but you now have to pay out more for a drink everyone talks about - but one you are not entirely sold on.
You sit down, take one sip, and soon realise it is not the same as the drink you originally wanted.
Clearly Liverpool wanted the French international.
They agreed a deal with QPR, personal terms with the player and he flew out to the USA to undergo a medical with the club while they were on their summer tour. Rodgers was ready to drink it up.
But then the medical came back and an old demon reared its head. Remy has a well documented heart condition - but it does not adversely affect his ability to play professional football. But Liverpool decided they did not want to take the risk, Rodgers' first choice replacement for Luis Suarez was now off the menu.
So instead he had to give the green light on a deal for Mario Balotelli - which is not going down smooth.
A bad taste has been left in the mouth of Rodgers recently as the Liverpool striker comes under criticism for his lacklustre displays and of course, 'shirtgate' at Anfield on Wednesday night.
So it is important to remember in this situation that Balotelli was not Liverpool's first choice. He was secondary to Remy and with that in mind it will take a little time for Rodgers to get used to the option he ended up having to take.
