Kurt Zouma has been named among Europe’s top 40 young players.
Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has been nominated for the Golden Boy award – a prize given to the best young player plying his trade in Europe.
40 players are nominated for the award, and they are selected from journalists and renowned publications such as Italy’s Tuttomercato, Spain’s Marca and Germany’s Bild to determine the best player.
The Premier League has 10 nominees up for the award, with four of those coming from London-based sides as Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal also have representatives.
The Blues have invested heavily in a vast array of youth talent over the years, but Zouma is arguably the pick of the lot and contains immense potential.
The 19-year-old centre-back joined the Stamford Bridge outfit from French side Saint-Etienne during the 2014 January transfer window for a reported £12 million fee.
His debut in a Blue shirt came during the 2-1 League Cup victory over Bolton Wanderers last month, a game where Zouma opened the scoring.
Boss Jose Mourinho has tipped him to become a huge part of the West Londoners future in recent weeks and France boss Didier Deschamps once labelled him a future France captain.
There is little denying his great potential in the game and it is no real surprise to see him nominated for the prestigious Golden Boy award.
The last Premier League representative to win the award was Mario Balotelli in 2010, whereas Zouma’s French compatriot Paul Pogba scooped the prize last year following a memorable campaign with Juventus.
Here is a list of the 40 nominees.
