Arsenal defender Isaac Hayden has been singing the praises of Southampton striker Graziano Pelle.
The 19-year-old Gunners prospect faced the Italy international last month in the third round of the League Cup at the Emirates Stadium. It was centre-back Hayden’s home debut against the Saints and he gave a good account of himself.
Reflecting on that game, the teenager, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, told the Arsenal Magazine: ‘Southampton are one of the best teams we’ve played all season, so it was a real test to be up against them.
‘The boss showed great faith is us to give us the opportunity to play against them. I marked Graziano Pelle, which was a real challenge. I’ve seen lots of him this season and it was nice to stop him from scoring and keep him relatively quiet’.
It seems that Hayden has been impressed with Pelle, just like all Premier League followers.
The Italian joined the Saints from Dutch giants Feyenoord in the summer transfer window for a reported fee of £8 million and has taken to English football like a duck to water.
Pelle has been one of the key reasons behind Southampton’s impressive start to the 2014-15 campaign, and he is likely to continue banging in the goals as the season progresses.
