Tottenham Hotspur star Jan Vertonghen isn't known for having tremendous skill or technique but that might be about to change after he made this incredible effort to replicate Erik Lamela's rabona goal against Asteras Tripolis last night.
Lamela, who still looks slightly out of sorts at Tottenham, scored one of the greatest goals the White Hart Lane faithful will ever see during the Europa League clash. The Argentine, hovering on the edge of the area, swung his left foot around the back of his right and hit an Adebayor pass first time past the despairing Tripolis keeper.
It was a sublime goal, one that will be remembered for years to come. His Spurs teammate, Vertonghen, has already tried to go one better by hitting a rabona shot into a bag hanging from a crossbar in training.
The official Spurs Twitter account released the above footage from an all new 'Ball in a Bag' series that will soon kick-off on the club's YouTube channel.
The clip shows Vertonghen unleashing a left-footed rabona, just like Lamela, but missing the hanging bag by the smallest of margins.
Although entertaining to watch, Tottenham supporters will be hoping that's the last time they see a defender hit a rabona. We all know from past viewing how horrible wrong they can go in games if they're misjudged.
