Tottenham Hotspur morning news: Vertonghen 'stunned', other time Lamela scored wonder goal

A round up of news stories this morning about Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen says he was stunned by Erik Lamela’s superb finish in the win against Asteras last night.

Lamela produced one of the goals of the season with a trick shot which curled round the Asteras goalkeeper.

“100% best goal I've seen live. I've seen a lot of YouTube clips but I've never seen a goal like it. I was stunned, for two minutes I was just thinking about that goal,” he told the Tottenham website.

Lamela scored the exact same ‘Rabona’ style goal during his days with River Plate.

On that occasion, the Argentine chipped the ball over an onrushing goalkeeper from a shorter distance.

Pochettino described last night’s effort as possibly the best he’d seen from one of his players.

The boss said he would never shown emotion over a goal of that nature, probably out of respect for the opposition.

“Probably the best. Only a player with his skill can score like the goal he scored today. I never show emotion even with a goal like that. I will enjoy it at home in my bed,” said the boss.
