Roberto Martinez says that Everton's Phil Jagielka has been immense for the side over the past few games.
The centre-back has led by example in the Toffees fixtures since the international break and Martinez has paid tribute to the England international today.
Jagielka has established himself as one of the key players in Everton's team and Martinez clearly feels he is living up to his reputation at the moment.
"Nothing affects his level of performance," the Spanish boss said to BT Sport.
"I think the last few weeks he has been immense. I do think he is a step ahead of where he was before."
Everton have managed to keep two clean-sheets in a row in their last couple of matches, after a poor start to the campaign.
The side beat Aston Villa 3-0 at the weekend, before drawing 0-0 with Lille last night in the Europa League and the two shut-outs have come as a welcome relief.
Everton had leaked goals in their matches before the international break, but they will be hoping to build on their more recent showings.
The side are under pressure to start performing if they are to live up to expectations this campaign, but supporters will have been encouraged that things appear to be turning around.
At the moment the club are in the bottom half of the Premier League table, but they could move closer to the European spots if they manage to beat Burnley at the weekend.
