On this day: Fabregas says Arsenal 'will always open its doors to me'

On the 24th October 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Chelsea and Arsenal.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 24th October 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 24th October 2013…

Fab return

A year ago today and Cesc Fabregas was discussing his links with Arsenal to The Guardian.

In it he made it clear that although he loved playing for boyhood club Barcelona he was still also in love with his former club Arsenal.

Fabregas had left Arsenal for Barcelona in 2011, after asking to join the club he played for and supported as a child. After eight years at the club the arsenal captain went home.

But in the interview he touched on the subject of a potential return to the club:

"Arsenal is in my heart and always will be. It was important for me to leave the right way. I think the fans understood. I don't know if I'll have the opportunity to go back and play there one day, or maybe after football. The club's like a family so even if it wasn't as a coach, I'm sure they'd give me the chance to play a role. It's a club that is always going to be there and will always open its doors to me."

A year later and that final statement certainly seems poignant. Because Arsenal did not hold the doors open for him this summer.

Instead they slammed them shit when offered the player as part of a buy-back clause from Barcelona - as the Catalans decided they no longer wanted him.

Instead he joined Chelsea and Arsenal fans are still at a loss to why they rejected their former captain.
