Several of the North West's hottest young footballers have been nominated for the prestigious honour, where journalists in several European countries nominate their top 5 players under the age of 21.
Liverpool have the joint most nominations of any club side, together with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
The Reds' trio comprise of star winger Raheem Sterling, and summer signings Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi, who is of course on loan at Lille.
Merseyside rivals Everton have John Stones on the elite list, which will leave Toffees fans disappointed considering the young defender may not play again this year due to injury.
Former Everton loan star Gerard Deulofeu is also present as one of Barca's contingent, despite him again being on loan at Sevilla this season.
Manchester United are represented by Adnan Januzaj and new arrival Luke Shaw, despite neither player enjoying as much first team football as they would have hoped for this season.
In fact, aside from Sterling and Stones, precious few of the players mentioned above have impressed in the Premier League this season, with credit being given for last season's performances.
Former United youngster Paul Pogba claimed the award last year, while Mario Balotelli won the prize in 2010 just after joining Manchester City.
London sides are also represented in the nominations, with Spurs duo Eric Dier and Nabil Bentaleb making the city alongside Arsenal's Calum Chambers and Chelsea's Kurt Zouma.
