Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela has been hitting the headlines today, and rightly so.
The Argentina international scored a sensational goal against Asteras Tripolisin the Europa League Group C clash at White Hart Lane on Thursday evening.
The goal has made everybody talking, including former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp.
‘It was a beautiful goal’, the ex-Liverpool star told Sky Sports. ‘It was audacious. Not many players would have the confidence to try it. It’s lovely to see... I just hope that it gives this young man the confidence to show what he can do because it hasn’t quite happened for him yet’.
Former Sunderland defender Phil Babb, an ex-teammate of Redknapp, was also raving about Lamela’s wondergoal and told Sky Sports: ‘Technically, it is a fantastic goal. It is a very difficult skill. We mostly see (it) when players are crossing from wide positions’.
Lamela is a genuinely talented player with potential to become one of the best in the world. A versatile player who can play out wide as well down the middle in attacking midfield, Lamela is just 22 years of age and has time on his hand.
What Lamela is lacking at the moment is consistency. If he can find that, then he will be ripping apart Premier League defences every week.
