Liverpool fans were of course tuning in to see Divock Origi in action again. The Belgian striker signed for the club on a £10 million deal in the summer. However, to push through a deal Liverpool agreed he would spend the upcoming season back on loan at Lille.
Origi has struggled for his best form this season but showed real glimpses of his talent last night.
He left Leighton Baines and Sylvain Distin for dead on a couple of occasions and while he struggled to have a similar effect from the other side of the pitch, and tailed off toward the end of the game, he certainly did not put himself to shame. Especially when you consider he is still just 19-years-old.
In the future Liverpool fans will hope to see Origi come good against Everton in numerous Merseyside Derby fixtures.
Origi, will of course want to do the same - and this was his first opportunity to shine against top Premier League opposition.
And after the game he was short and sweet on his first such experience. He told the assembled media after the game:
"This was my first big test against an English team. And it was an interesting evening."
Liverpool fans will however hope he can score the odd goal when he is in Liverpool red against Everton blue.
