Giovani dos Santos was signed by Spurs in 2008 from Spanish giants Barcelona.
Spurs paid €6 million for the Mexican prodigy who was something of a teen sensation at the time and expected to follow in the footsteps of many other great young talents at the club - however that never materialised.
In his four years at Tottenham he made very little impact - less than he probably did at Barcelona. In fact the playmaker's most impressive times came away from the club whether at Ipswich or Racing Santander - or on international duty with Mexico.
Last summer Dos Santos was hot property after an excellent 2013 where he almost dragged RCD Mallorca to survival practically single-handedly. Plenty of teams wanted to snap him up with Valencia, Real Betis and Atletico Madrid all keen - but he joined Villarreal after a month of deliberation.
He has become an instant star at the Yellow Submarine. In 2013-14 he scored 12 goals in 34 appearances for the club last season, also bagging eight assists.
And one of those strikes has him keeping illustrious company this week - after he was unveiled as one of the final three on a short-list for the La Liga Goal of the Season for 2013-14.
Of course he is up against some rather fierce competition, but he would love to get the better of Messi and Ronaldo, two of the world's greatest ever players, to again prove to Tottenham Hotspur that they gave up on him far too soon.
