Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton was impressed with Real Madrid’s opening goal against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo started the move from midfield and finished it with a brilliant strike after latching ontp a truly world-class over-the-top pass from summer signing James Rodriguez (click here to read more).
The goal came midway through the first half of the Champions League Group B match and was followed by a brace from France international striker Karim Benzema.
Barton, a former Manchester City and Newcastle United player, was in awe of Madrid’s first goal and expressed his admiration on social networking site Twitter.
What a goal that is. Absolute class. Hell of a weighted pass from James... #ronaldo— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) October 22, 2014
Liverpool’s performance against defending European champions Madrid was truly underwhelming, and one player who has been criticised by many is Mario Balotelli.
The £16 million summer signing played for only the first 45 minutes and was also caught on camera swapping shirts with Madrid defender Pepe at half time (click here to read more).
Barton gave his opinion on that matter as well.
Liverpool did well to keep it respectable. Feel sorry for Balotelli. Its not his fault. They knew what they where getting into, didn't they?— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) October 22, 2014
Another QPR star who was impressed with Madrid’s display against Liverpool is striker Charlie Austin, who hailed Ronaldo and midfielder Toni Kroos.
20 goals already this season, this guy is the best in the world— Charlie Austin (@chazaustin9) October 22, 2014
