It is one of the best sights in professional football, when an outfield player has to go between the sticks.
That happened tonight as Harry Kane had to go in goal for Tottenham Hotspur against Asteras Tripolis.
Hugo Lloris' trademark goalkeeping style backfired when he charged out of goal, as the last man, and took out an oncoming Asteras attacker. The French international was sent off and Kane took over the armband and goalkeeper jersey for the final few minutes.
Unfortunately his goalkeeping skills do not live up to his attacking prowess.
Tottenham had used all their subs so Kane was allowed the opportunity to stand custodian. But he certainly did not have the talent for the job.
He looked like a rabbit in the headlights as a free-kick from Jeronimo Barrales was lined up. The Argentine fired in a reasonably tame effort at goal, and Kane made a complete hash of catching the ball, allowing the ball to trickle into the back of the net.
But Tottenham fans will certainly forgive him - as he scored an excellent hat-trick for Tottenham in a superb 5-1 victory.
