A heat maps from Roberto Soldado’s performance against Manchester City last season where Tottenham Hotspur lost 6-0 suggests that the Spaniard worked harder in that game than Mario Balotelli did against Real Madrid last night.
Soldado has been heavily criticised for his inconsistency since he’s been a Tottenham player, but he works hard to try and have an impact in games when things aren’t going his way.
Balotelli was urged to go all out to try and be Liverpool’s decisive player ahead of the Real Madrid clash last night, but he let his head drop after Cristiano Ronaldo scored at Anfield to put the European champions ahead.
It hints at a potential problem for Brendan Rodgers in terms of motivation and creates a contrast with another player at a Premier League rival who has been perceived as out of form for a very long time.
Rodgers has to find a way to get Balotelli motivated in big games as he tries to get a return on the £16 million invested in him and turn the negative criticism he’s getting into positive praise.
