Ex-Leeds man tipped to go 'all the way to the top' by Owls teammate

Sheffield Wednesday

Former Leeds United defender Tom Lees has been backed to go right to the top by Sheffield Wednesday teammate Liam Palmer.

Sheffield Wednesday defender Liam Palmer believes that Tom Lees has the potential to go right to the top of the game.

Lees joined Wednesday from Leeds United in the summer and he clearly has wasted to time at all impressing the squad at Hillsborough.

Palmer believes that Lees has all the attributes to play in the Premier League in the future and has praised his form since joining the club.

“Tom has got all the attributes to go all the way,” he said to the Sheffield Star. “Age is on his side. He’s only 23 so he’s the same age as myself so I don’t see why not.”

“Tom is fantastic. I have played alongside him a lot of the time. He makes my life so much easier, not just with his talking but his positional play.

“He is always there. If you miss a clearance, you know Tom is going to be there to clear the danger. He has been a great signing.”

Many were surprised when Lees was allowed to leave Elland Road this summer, given his past form for the club.

Although the 23-year-old has struggled to progress in recent seasons, he remained one of the better prospects to come through the youth-academy for some time and his availability was a surprise.

Lees appeared to slip down the pecking order at Leeds after a number of foreign imports were brought in and was deemed surplus to requirements.

His move to Wednesday has benefitted him, though, and at the moment he is looking down on his old club in the table.

Leeds' form over the start of the season has been fairly uninspiring and they are already playing catch-up on the Owls, who are just outside the playoff spaces.
