West Ham coach heaps praise on young full-backs, hails superb transition

West Ham's first-team coach has been discussing Aaron Cresswell and Carl Jenkinson's form since they moved to Upton Park.

West Ham United first-team coach Ian Hendon has lavished praise on his side's young full-back pairing of Aaron Cresswell and Carl Jenkinson.

Cresswell joined the Hammers after leaving Ipswich Town in the summer, while Jenkinson is currently on loan from Arsenal, and both defenders have impressed for the east London side.

As Opta stats show, Cresswell caused all sorts of problems against Burnley last Saturday, with Jenkinson faring better defensively.

And Hendon feels the two are very good athletes who can deliver good crosses into the penalty area.

"I think we've strengthened all round. The two lads at full-back are doing really well," Hendon told West Ham's official website.

"Aaron's been fantastic. He hasn't changed the way he plays the game in any way. I watched him play a few times last season at Ipswich. We knew what was coming and what we'd get from Aaron. He's made the transition superbly.

"I think, if you look at the way most teams use their full-backs these days in the Premier League, they have them pushing on forward and attacking. We've certainly got two athletes who get up and down the pitch. When asked, they get good balls into the box and they've both started very well for us."
