Halilovic interest over

A year ago today and Tottenham Hotspur dropped their interest in 'the next Luka Modric' Alen Halilovic. The talented Croatian was believed to have agreed a move to Tottenham along with fellow Croatian youngster Tin Jedvaj last summer.

However that never happened, with Jedvaj joining AS Roma instead.

But Sky Sports sources suggested that the player was no longer on their radar after an extensive recruitment drive in the summer saw plenty of players similar in style arrive at White Hart Lane.

Since then Halilovic, who was also linked with Bayern Munich, has joined Barcelona and is currently playing with their 'B' side.

Sahin deals

Nuri Sahin was discussing his past links with Arsenal. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder, who had a poor loan spell at Liverpool the season previous, claimed that Arsenal had tried to sign him on three occasions.

He stated:

"It was very close. Three times in my career I was almost at Arsenal. It never happened, but that is normal in football.

"I think I was 16 the first time and then last summer we spoke with Arsenal, but in the end I signed with Liverpool."

Sir Alex stories

A year ago today and Sir Alex Ferguson made those comments about Steven Gerrard.

The legendary Manchester United manager's comments came in his latest autobiography - in which he stated he had tried to sign Gerrard, but that he 'was not a top, top player'.

It was among many controversial statements from the day from Fergie including comments on Frank Lampard, David Beckham and Andy Carroll.
