Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was seemingly satisfied with the performance of 19-year-old Kurt Zouma in Tuesday night's thrashing of Slovenian minnows NK Maribor. The Blues youngster received a surprise start at the centre of defense and he took the opportunity to impress with a solid display.
Following his side's comprehensive victory, Mourinho had kind words for the defender, claiming he is ready to challenge for a first team place at Stamford Bridge, despite making just a handful of appearances for the club.
He said: ‘It's always better to play them when the situation is good. Zouma is in a different dimension."
"Zouma is ready to play any match, but because I wanted to give stability to the team I played since day one with Cahill and John."
"It is a similar situation to the one I had at Real Madrid with Raphael Varane."
The Portuguese head coach made the big call to make a change in defence by bringing in the young Frenchman in place of the experienced Gary Cahill. Nonetheless, his gamble paid off, and the Chelsea faithful were allowed a glimpse of the £12 million-man's talents.
