Joey Barton picks Chelsea star in his World XI

The Queens Park Rangers midfielder has shared his picks for the top 11 players in the world with his social media followers.

Joey Barton has revealed the 11 players he believes should be named in the FIFPro World Team of the Year.

The Queens Park Rangers midfielder posted his picks on his official Instagram and Twitter accounts on Wednesday afternoon and it seems there are no great surprises.

However, Barton did only pick one player from the Premier League, although it was in no small part due to his form for former club Atletico Madrid.

The QPR man picked Chelsea striker Diego Costa in his XI, which is no surprise given the outstanding form the Spanish international has showed in the last 12 months.

He may have had a World Cup to forget, but that tournament aside Costa has banged the goals in left, right and centre.

Alongside the Chelsea player, Barton picked Luis Suarez – who was simply scintillating for Liverpool last season – and Cristiano Ronaldo (so no place for Lionel Messi, then).

The rest of Barton’s side was made up of players from Atletico, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, with perhaps the biggest question raised over the inclusion of Jerome Boateng instead of either Miranda or Diego Godin.
