Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool will pick up a point from their Champions League clash against Real Madrid on Wednesday.
The Reds will host the defending European champions in the Champions League Group B at Anfield. Madrid will head into the game as many football followers’ favourites.
Los Blancos are one of the three strongest teams in Europe and have a certain Cristiano Ronaldo. Moreover, Carlo Ancelotti’s side have been banging in the goals for fun this season, both in La Liga and in the Champions League.
On the other hand, Liverpool have struggled both defensively and in attack. With Brendan Rodgers’s side still conceding goals that they should not, injury to star striker Daniel Sturridge and £16 million summer signing Mario Balotelli’s problems in scoring mean that the Merseyside outfit could be in for a tough time against the 10-time European champions.
However, Carragher, a former Liverpool defender, backs the Reds to draw the encounter at Anfield and wrote in The Daily Mail: ‘1-1. Real Madrid might be favourites but there is no chance Liverpool will lie down at home’.
Arsenal legend Martin Keown, though, believes that Madrid will pick up maximum points and wrote: ‘The electric Anfield atmosphere could power Liverpool to a special performance, so we could be in for a thriller. But I still feel Madrid are too strong. A 2-1 away win for the Spaniards’.
