Former United striker Welbeck sends Gerrard message ahead of Real clash

Anfield Pitch

Former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has offered support to Steven Gerrard ahead of the Liverpool v Real Madrid.

Former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has wished Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard good luck ahead of the Reds’ game against Real Madrid.

Welbeck left United over the summer in a £16 million move to Arsenal and commented on a photo from Gerrard on Instagram ahead of the game in a move, which won’t please some United fans.

Liverpool head into the game against the reigning European champions as the underdogs to get a result but fully aware of the advantage that a hostile and loud Anfield can give them.

Welbeck and Gerrard’s friendship has been given a chance to bloom via the England international setup and this message suggests that friendship is growing strong despite Gerrard’s international retirement and Welbeck’s exit from United.

If Liverpool are going to pull off a win this evening and register their second win of the tournament, Gerrard is likely to be at the heart of any positive performance.
