With a squad boasting some of the brightest young talents on the continent, it’s little wonder that several of Anderlecht’s rising stars have been linked with moves to the Premier League over the past couple of years.
And while some of these rumours are likely to remain just that, it’s still worth keeping them in mind ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Belgium. Here are five players once linked with Premier League moves – sort the fact from the fiction yourselves.
Dennis Praet – Newcastle United
The 20-year-old midfielder was once described as the “Belgian Iniesta” by former team-mate Tom de Sutter and was scouted by Newcastle coaches Willie Donachie and Peter Beardsley two years ago, though the Magpies ultimately failed to complete deal for the player, who has already scored against Galatasaray in the Champions League this season.
Fabrice N’Sakala – West Ham United
Signed from Troyes for an undisclosed fee back in the summer of 2013, the 24-year-defender was previously linked to West Ham, with Sam Allardyce scouting the player during his time in France. An impressive showing could convince the Irons boss to look again come January with the club facing a future without Winston Reid.
Andy Najar – Tottenham Hotspur
The Honduras international moved to Anderlecht from DC United in January 2013 for $3 million and has impressed so far in Belgium with five goals in 32 games for the Brussels club. Fresh from appearing at the World Cup in Brazil, the 22-year-old was linked with a surprise move to Tottenham earlier this month.
Youri Tielemans - Liverpool
Among the jewels in Anderlecht’s crown, this 17-year-old midfielder has already played 38 games for the Brussels side, scoring twice along the way. Capped by Belgium at under-15, under-16 and under-21 level, the youngster could follow in the footsteps of compatriot Divock Origi, with Liverpool reportedly tracking his progress this season ahead of a potential bid.
Aleksandr Mitrovic - Arsenal
The Gunners search for a new striker had them reportedly looking at this 20-year-old Serbian international, who has racked up 24 goals in 54 games for Anderlecht since signing from Partizan Belgrade last year. With Olivier Giroud sidelined and Lukas Podolski out of favour, Arsene Wenger may keep one eye on the youngster here.
Do you think any of these players will end up in the Premier League next season?
