At the end of last week it was reported that Brazilian international full-back Dani Alves had agreed a move to a Premier League club. That Premier League club was said to be Manchester United.
The Barcelona full-back is out of contract in the summer and it was reported that the 31-year-old had already agreed a preliminary deal with Manchester United and would join them in the summer.
Indeed his agent had not helped with comments stating he would leave Barcelona in the summer a week previously.
But this reported 'done deal' with Manchester United was soon refuted and rubbished in the Spanish press, in particular from resident Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.
Now, the denial has come from the horse's mouth.
Dani Alves was speaking to the club website after Barcelona defeated Ajax in the Champions League last night - in which addressed the rumours of an impending Manchester United switch.
He made it clear that no deal was agreed for him to be moving anywhere this summer.
“I am very happy to stay here. Because when I make life decisions I like to know I got them right. I am happy with my decision because we work here the way I like. It’s very intense and that’s what gives us the edge.
"Every now and again unfounded rumours come out of Brazil. There have been no conversations between my people and any team. If anything does happen, then I’ll be the first to say so.”
So that should, at least for now, put to bed the rumours of a done deal with Manchester United for this world class talent.
