Hatem Ben Arfa, 27, needs to either bounce off of a one-up mushroom or collect a world-full of coins as he believes he has "used up" all of his "credits" and only has "one life remaining."
Prior to their respective Premier League careers, up-and-coming talents Ben Arfa and Samir Nasri were both touted to be big stars in French football.
However, their paths could not be more different as Nasri went on to represent Arsenal before becoming a champion with Manchester City, while Ben Arfa is in danger of becoming a journeyman having left Newcastle United to join Hull City on loan.
Ben Arfa's contract expires next summer and so could leave Newcastle United on a Bosman deal.
The winger, though, compares the situation to a last-chance saloon.
“Being a free agent next summer? It is huge pressure… I have used up all my credits," he is quoted to have said by Sport Confidentiel.
"It is like playing Mario - I have one life remaining, I have to take care, but I will take on the challenge.
“Playing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe? I will achieve it.”
