‘We’re facing the truth' – Arsenal star refuses to make excuses

Mathieu Flamini clears

Mathieu Flamini has been speaking about the current situation at Arsenal.

Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini has said the Gunners’ injury woes cannot be used as an excuse as they return to Champions League action.

Arsenal face Anderlecht on Wednesday without a whole host of first-team stars including Mesut Ozil, Mathieu Debuchy, Olivier Giroud, David Ospina and the suspended Wojciech Szczesny, but Flamini knows his side still has the quality to win.

In quotes published by the Guardian, the Frenchman said, “We’re having injuries but we don’t want to hide behind any excuses.

“We’re facing the truth. We didn’t win on Saturday and we’ll try to find a solution for the next games.”

Arsenal still have plenty of talent available despite their injury blows, and the simple fact is they have to make the best of a bad situation and hope the players available – including plenty of international stars – step up.

A win against Anderlecht will put Arsene Wenger’s side in a good position halfway through the group stage, but a defeat will throw things wide open.
