United morning news: Match reaction; £5.5m-a-year offer for La Liga star

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

The reaction to Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Monday evening continues, after boss Louis van Gaal claimed it was his side’s best performance of the season.

United twice came from behind to ensure a draw with the Baggies, with unlikely goal heroes Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind ensuring the point with fine strikes.

But United’s defence remains a huge issue and the likes of Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo in particular will have to improve in the weeks and months ahead.

In other news, the Daily Express reports that Sami Khedira is the latest player to be seen as a potential alternative to Arturo Vidal at Old Trafford.

The report claims United are prepared to offer the German international a £5.5million-a-year contract, but if he does leave Real Madrid there will be plenty of competition for his signature.

There is no doubt, however, that he would add stability to United’s midfield and protection for their defence.
