Swansea City player Marvin Emnes has been speaking about the competition for places at the Liberty Stadium.
The 26-year-old winger-cum-forward has had to be patient this season, spending the vast majority of his time on the bench and featuring for just 14 minutes in the Premier League to date. But rather than be downhearted, the Dutchman has welcomed the challenge.
In an interview with Swansea’s official website, Emnes said, “Every player wants to be in the starting XI and that’s up to yourself and the manager.
“Before I came here I knew there were very good players here in my position, but playing with these guys can make you a better player.
“It’s great for everyone at the club. The more quality players the manager has then the better chance we have of getting the results we want. We are all pushing each other forward.”
That is a fantastic thing to hear from a player, who is clearly not sulking at his lack of game-time but accepting of the challenges that face any Premier League star.
In focusing on the team rather than himself, Swansea have a player who is saying all the right things. And if he can do all the right things when he does get his chances that will bode well for a side that is impressing in the early stages of a promising campaign.
