Southampton are aiming to convert Toby Alderweireld's loan into a permanent transfer in January, according to TalkSPORT.
Alderweireld is currently on loan for the season from Atletico Madrid, but Southampton have already been impressed enough to be convinced to make his stay a longer one.
The Belgian defender has made four appearances for the club to date and has caught the eye enough for manager Ronald Koeman to want him to stay longer.
Alderweireld has struggled to make an impact at Atleti since moving there in 2013 so a full transfer should not be too hard to complete, providing the Belgian wants the move.
All the indication so far is that he does, and Koeman must be optimistic of his chances of securing the 25-year-old.
Southampton have been one of the most exciting teams in the Premier League over the early parts of the season, and Alderweireld would certainly have been excited by the prospect of playing for the team.
The Saints are currently in the top four of the Premier League table, with their form proving many doubters about their ability wrong.
Alderweireld is one of a number of summer signings to have made a good initial impression at the club and this shrewd transfer window spending has helped compensate for a loss of a number of key stars.
There has rarely been more excitement around St. Mary's than there currently is, and Alderweireld signing on a permanent deal would only be further good news in what has been a brilliant opening to the campaign for the Saints.
