Italian source TM says Tottenham Hotspur will have to wait until next summer if they want to sign 22-year-old Sampdoria star Manolo Gabbiadini.
The Italian international has reportedly becomes a target for Spurs after his fine start to the Serie A season with five goals in six games.
“Obviously they [the links] are a source of pride, but with the market Manolo has decided to postpone everything until the end of the season,” said his agent Silvio Pagliari.
“We have fully embraced the cause of Sampdoria and only in June will we begin to talk about the market.”
On the one hand his comments are encouraging because they suggest that the player is open to leaving Sampdoria of the offer which comes in for him is a good one.
However, the big problem that Spurs are likely to face is the increased interest from other sides in him, if he maintains the impressive form he’s already shown this season.
Spurs may also be in a stronger position at the end of the season with the possibility of Champions League football.
That has the ability to change the way Spurs could approach the transfer market, in terms of the sort of quality and sort of experience in a player they’re looking for.
Tottenham could definitely use some different options up front because none of Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado or Harry Kane has been able to take the centre forward role and make it his own.
Gabbiadini would certainly be an exciting player and he’s well suited to Pochettino’s traditional style of play, but there are likely to be a few twists in this tale before any ink meets any dotted line on any contract.
