The Argentine was taken off during the 2-2 draw against West Brom last night, with Louis van Gaal seemingly keeping one eye on the clash against the league leaders on Sunday.
“The Argentina international felt pain in his thigh and was withdrawn in the 76th minute, apperingd to be in some discomfort and seen clutching an ice pack on the substitutes' bench,” reports Goal.
“Di Maria will undergo a scan at United's training complex on Tuesday as a precaution but the former Real Madrid star is expected to be fit for the showdown with Jose Mourinho's table-toppers at Old Trafford.”
Di Maria was a bright spark on another disappointing night for United as he continues his good form since he joined the club in a £60 million deal from Real Madrid.
He may not have scored last night but he gave United an extra threat from wide areas, with a staggering 20 crosses over the course of the game, which provided something different when the Baggies defended in a low block.
Sides that defend deep and shut up shop make it extremely difficult for any team to break them down and Di Maria’s delivery from the left hand side was superb.
United will likely monitor Di Maria over the rest of the week and fortunately for LvG, the side don’t have European commitments, which means they can give the winger as much rest and time as possible to recover pre-Chelsea.
