Paul Lambert says that Aston Villa summer signing Carlos Sanchez has been kept out of the first-team line-up because of the form of Ashley Westwood.
The Colombian was expected to be a regular after he arrived from Elche during the transfer window, but he has generally had to make do with a number of substitute appearances so far.
Blessed with great strength and power he offers different qualities to Westwood, but the form of the ex-Crewe man has meant that he has had to watch from the sidelines for the majority of his time since arriving in England.
However, after another off-colour display from the side against Everton at the weekend, Lambert has hinted that Sanchez will come into the first-team line-up.
"Carlos will come into the reckoning now,” he said to the Birmingham Mail.
“He has done really well in training but the form of Ashley Westwood has been really high."
“Now it’s the time for him to see if he’s really ready for it.”
Sanchez caused great anticipation when he arrived at Villa Park and it seems that the Claret and Blue supporters will not have to wait too much longer to see if he is able to make the grade.
The Colombian was part of his nation's successful World Cup run and is clearly a talent, it is just a question of whether or not he can adjust to the English game.
He comes into the team at a vital time as they look to beat QPR next Monday after a dip in form, after a positive opening to the campaign.
