Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke made his first team debut for the club against Maribor, at only 17.
His rapid ascendancy to the senior squad appears to have shocked even the player himself, judging by his post-game comment on Twitter.
Wow. What a moment. Making my debut for chelsea in the champions league! Thank you so much for all the messages and support! #CFC— Dom Solanke (@DomSolanke) October 21, 2014
Solanke played the final 18 minutes in the 6-0 victory, brought into the squad due to Diego Costa's injury.
Loic Remy picked up an injury while scoring the opener in the win, and only Didier Drogba presently is ahead of him in the pecking order.
The recoveries of Costa and Remy will be assessed over the coming days, but it would not be a surprise to see England youth international striker Solanke included in the squad to face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
