Cole winning battle for Bayern start

Former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole is looking likely to play against Bayern Munich after convincing more than Vassilios Torosidis and José Holebas.

Roma face a crunch Champions League clash against Bayern Munich this evening and coach Rudi Garcia looks likely to trust Ashley Cole with the left-back position.

Cole seems to be settling in at Roma after reportedly suffering from some homesickness in his first weeks in the Italian capital.

The ex-Chelsea man signed as free agent over the summer and represented a significant coup for Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini.

But Cole has had to fight against some competitors for a starting place, namely Vassilios Torosidis and José Holebas.

According to Il Messaggero, Roma boss Garcia has been trying to work out which of the three he trusts most with a crucial test against Bayern and he is ready to pick Cole.

Cole played 90 minutes as Roma grabbed a draw away to Manchester City in their last Champions League outing and the England international has extensive experience at the highest level. He will certainly have his work cut out against Bayern's explosive attack this evening.
