Southampton chairman speaks about historic victory.
At the start of the season, few would have had Southampton down as top-four contenders, let alone a team who would take little time to record their biggest ever Premier League win. But Ronald Koeman has done an amazing job at St Mary’s and the disappointment at losing so many key players last summer has been swiftly forgotten.
In an interview with the club’s official website, Krueger said, “I know that everybody’s gone right back to work, but it was a special day that we will remember forever.
“It’s really a product of so many things that have been going on here in the last few months. The end product is Ronald and the team on the pitch, and when they win like that, everybody wins.”
It was the result not just of the weekend but arguably of the season so far, with Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle in particular impressing, while special praise should also be given to Southampton’s back-line, which continues to shine despite the departure of Dejan Lovren and Luke Shaw.
It may not get any better than an 8-0 win, but whatever happens for the rest of the season, it looks like being one of considerable highs, which is reason enough to celebrate given the hypothetical black clouds that hovered over the club just a few short months ago.
