Why Manchester United won’t get Darmian in January

Manchester United have been linked with Torino full-back Matteo Darmian over the last few days, but reports suggest they won't land him in January.

Italian international defender Matteo Darmian may be on Manchester United's wish list, but sources believe a winter transfer is unlikely.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough 2013-14 campaign in an overachieving Torino side and has established himself in the national side.

The Mirror believes that United are plotting a January swoop, but Torino may be far from receptive to any offers that arrive at the start of the new year.

According to the latest reports in Italy, Torino chief Urbano Cairo is determined to keep his asset for the time being and certainly won't consider any offer under £10 million.

Cairo is also reportedly not open to any transfer in January and would only start to entertain the notion of Darmian's sale in the summer of 2015.

Furthermore Manchester United may face competition from any of the many sides that have been linked with Darmian, including Juventus, Napoli, Milan, Galatasaray, Real Madrid and Inter.

So for the time being Manchester United's pursuit of Darmian looks to be a tough obstacle course.
