Marca have given their assessment of Liverpool ahead of the game against Real Madrid.
Spanish newspaper Marca has criticised the nature of Liverpool’s win against QPR yesterday.
The pro-Real Madrid news source has implied Liverpool were lucky to take anything away from the game, with the efforts of Chilean Eduardo Vargas overshadowed by two own goals and a deflected shot from Philippe Coutinho.
“Brendan Rodgers's side won the match but the performance will not inspire the team for the visit of Real Madrid to Anfield for the third game of the Champions League group stage,” reported Marca.
Liverpool host Real Madrid in the Champions League this weekend in arguably the pick of the fixtures in the latest round of games.
The last time Real Madrid went to Anfield, they were thrashed 5-0 but Liverpool’s performance will have to improve if they are going to get anything from the European battle.
The Reds have two things going for them, which could give them a slight advantage ahead of the game.
Firstly, there are serious injury concerns to a number of Real Madrid players with Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema all doubts ahead of the match.
The trio haven’t trained following Real Madrid’s weekend win against Levante and they could head into the match slightly undercooked.
Secondly, Liverpool have the home advantage and the fact that Anfield is one of the most intimidating places for any side in Europe to go and play football.
If Liverpool improve from the QPR performance, get that little bit of luck and benefit from one or two injuries and some intimidating support, they can win and move onto the same number of points as the current European champions.
