Liverpool fullback Javier Manquillo says he will try to remain focused when facing Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The La Liga giants travel to Anfield with their Portuguese winger in arguably the form of his life, scoring a ridiculous 15 goals in his previous seven league encounters.
Next up for the 29-year-old goal machine is a familiar face in Manquillo, a player he has encountered before when facing the fullback in a Copa Del Rey semi-final derby against Atletico Madrid.
Manquillo joined the Reds on a two-year loan deal in the summer after Los Colchoneros boss Diego Simeone deemed him surplus to requirements at the Vicente Calderon stadium.
The Spanish U21 international has made six Premier League appearances to date, stepping in for the previously injured Glen Johnson and performing well.
The proposition of facing Real Madrid and Ronaldo, however, is the ultimate test for a young fullback and Manquillo reveals to the Spanish press how the Merseysiders should approach the game.
"I am a Colchonero and playing against Madrid is always different. We have to approach the game as another challenge, enhance our strengths and look for the three points.” He said, quoted by the Spanish publication AS.
“It is clear that Madrid is a team with big stars. It will be an interesting match, especially for me as I will be up against Cristiano Ronaldo. I will try to remain focused and have a good match."
