Shawn Levy linked to Minecraft Movie

It looks as though the film adaptation of massively popular blocktastic sandbox game has found a director.

Deadline has reported that Shawn Levy is currently in talks with Warner Bros to helm the Minecraft movie.

Levy’s previous directorial outings include Just Married, The Pink Panther, Cheaper by the Dozen, Date Night, Real Steel, The Internship and Night at the Museum. Having grossed $2 billion worldwide from his movies, Levy is held amongst the most successful directors of the last decade.

HIs latest film to hit the cinemas: Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb, will be released stateside on 19th December.

The Minecraft movie is being produced by Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment. Lee has previously taken on the role of executive producer for the US remakes of The Ring and The Grudge. More recently he produced the critically acclaimed Lego Movie.

Last month it was announced that Microsoft is to buy Minecraft for $2.5 billion. at the time Xbox chief Phil Spencer assured fans that the game would continue to receive support on non-Microsoft Platforms.
