Liverpool are still looking for a goalkeeper to back up Simon Mignolet and Fiorentina's Neto might be the new top contender for a January approach.
Spanish goalkeeper Victor Valdes was strongly linked with Liverpool, but expert Guillem Balague believes that there's no real prospect of that deal taking place.
Real Madrid's Iker Casillas has also been suggested as an option, but Liverpool may move for a lower-cost alternative in Neto.
The Brazilian has been on strong form for Fiorentina and is making a name for himself in Serie A.
Better still, Neto's current contract expires in June 2015 and he has so far resisted Fiorentina's offers of a new deal.
The Italian club may soon have to accept that Neto's long-term future lies elsewhere and could accept a lower offer in January in order to avoid losing him for free.
At just 25 years of age, Neto may be more willing to play a back-up role at Liverpool and could be real talent for the future if he keeps improving.
The goalkeeper has previously been linked with Italian champions Juventus but recently insisted that he would never join Fiorentina's rivals.
