Mario Balotelli’s frustrating start to the season with Liverpool continued against QPR yesterday.
The Reds were fortunate to get over the line in a match where QPR had much of the play and Balotelli missed one of the best chances he’s likely to get this season.
QPR goalkeeper Alex McCarthy parried a shot into the Italian’s path, which left him with a tap in to score his first Premier League goal of the season but it wasn’t to be.
Balotelli sent his effort over, which partly setup the tense and entertaining finish, which saw the sides exchange goals as Liverpool crept over the line thanks to two own goals and a deflected shot from Philippe Coutinho.
Liverpool now switch their focus back to the Champions League and a huge match against Real Madrid.
If Brendan Rodgers resists the urge to bring Daniel Sturridge back into the team, Balotelli will find himself with another chance to lead the attack and he has to do better than he managed at Loftus Road yesterday.
