Newcastle United midfielder Siem de Jong has posted an injury update on his official Facebook page.
The former Ajax star has been side-lined since tearing a tendon in his thigh after just three appearances for the Magpies, with the initial prognosis suggesting he could be out until 2015.
However, de Jong has suggested he could be back in “a couple of months”, hinting that he could return this side of Christmas.
“Little update,” he wrote on Monday afternoon. “On my way back to Newcastle; just saw the surgeon in London and all looks good.
“I can slowly start building up strength again and start walking without crutches. Still a couple of months to go but I’m working hard and I’m sure I will get back stronger.”
De Jong was hailed as Newcastle’s best signing of the summer given his impressive goal-scoring record and experience. So it came as a huge blow when he was ruled out so soon after joining the club.
But it seems he is working hard to get back when his body allows, but given Newcastle’s current predicament, that return cannot come soon enough.
