Villa boss Lambert on why he's not ready to play Okore

Paul Lambert has been speaking about three of his Aston Villa stars.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has given a fitness update on three of his players.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Lambert revealed the current situations regarding Philippe Senderos, Jores Okore and Nathan Baker.

Senderos missed the 3-0 defeat to Everton at the weekend, but his manager said he was hopeful the Swiss international would be back for the game against Queens Park Rangers.

The Villa boss also revealed that Baker suffered a hamstring injury at Goodison Park and that his medical staff would assess the defender this week.

As for Okore – who has been out of action since rupturing knee ligaments against Newcastle United in September 2013 – Lambert feels he still needs some time before he can be back in the Villa first-team.

The centre-back has played for Denmark’s under-21 side this season, but Lambert said, “Jores has played under-21 football but I’m not quite sure he’s too ready to go into this environment yet.

“That’s why I’m a bit reluctant and he’s got to get more game-time under his belt for his knee.”

Okore has made the bench for two of Villa’s under-21 games this season, but he must now start playing regularly, building up his fitness and his strength to ensure when he does return for Villa’s first-team it is for the long haul.
