Tottenham Hotspur latest, reflections on Man City defeat, Lamela on top four chances

A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Monday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason felt he 'did ok' against Manchester City as Tottenham lost 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, but felt it was a chance to beat the reigning champions.

In an interview with the Tottenham website, Mason says the side hopes to put things right in the Europa League on Thursday prior to their Premier League clash with Newcastle United - and identified a key moment in Saturday's loss.

He said: “The lads are devastated because we came here to win the game and we had a chance to do that.

“The penalty miss was massive and the sending off killed our momentum. It ended in a 4-1 scoreline but I don’t think the game reflected that."

Christian Eriksen has said the side can build on the display at the Etihad Stadium and seems to also pinpoint the penalty as a key moment in the game, as Roberto Soldado's spot-kick was saved by City goalkeeper Joe Hart, with the scoreline at 2-1.

He told the Tottenham website: “These are the key moments and if we don’t score ourselves, they have the players to score and unlucky for us, they did that.

“But I think we can build on this performance, especially in the first half and the beginning of the second half."

Erik Lamela is still confident the side can qualify for the Champions League this season by finishing the top four. As it stands, Spurs are two points off fourth place and the Argentine is hopeful.

He told the London Evening Standard: “Can we qualify? We hope so. There is still a lot of time left in the season.”
