Chelsea morning news: Costa fitness update, Cech advice for Courtois

Chelsea Stadium Stamford Bridge

A round up of news stories this morning about Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has admitted that Diego Costa has a minimal chance of being fit for the Premier League clash against Manchester United.

Costa is a doubt for the game after Mourinho also ruled him out of the Champions League clash against Maribor.

“I say Maribor, no chance; Man United, very little [chance] – but very little,” said the Portuguese.

Petr Cech offered advice to Thibaut Courtois after the knock with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, which left the Belgian bleeding from the ear.

Courtois had to be taken off during the Chelsea win, with the club criticised for initially allowing him to play on.

“He told me that in the Premier League, some strikers really go in against the ‘keepers, so sometimes it is better to protect your head,” revealed the Belgian.

Chelsea skipper John Terry has spoken about the first time he was made Blues captain.

Terry has been a long term servant of the West London outfit, still performing at the top level in both the Premier League and Champions League.

“I remember when I first got it, Marcel (Desailly) was captain and he called a meeting with the management – they felt it was time they gave me the armband, and seem me through,” said Terry.
