Chelsea latest: Terry award, Jose on winter window, Matic on Cesc

Cesc Fabregas Spain

All the Chelsea news including a prize given to John Terry, Jose Mourinho's comments on the transfer window and Nemanja Matic comments on Cesc Fabregas.

According to Independent readers, John Terry is the greatest centre back in the modern Premier League era.

Such sentiment sees the Chelsea skipper tower ahead of other division greats such as Sol Campbell, Rio Ferdinand, Ledley King, Jamie Carragher and Tony Adams, as well as foreign imports like Sami Hyppia, Vincent Kompany, Jaap Stam and Nemanja Vidic.

Terry received 240 votes from a total 658 - which is 36% of the votes.

There will be some who believe Terry is a fading force and requires replacing, however, manager Jose Mourinho can always call upon Branislav Ivanovic or even Kurt Zouma to partner Gary Cahill, rather than enter the transfer market in order to throw money at a deputy.

For Mourinho, such a move reeks of desperation if it is made in the middle of the season.

On the mid-season transfer market, the boss said: "Hopefully we don't need it and don't have problems. The window is there for people in trouble, for whatever reason, to cope with a difficult moment. Hopefully we do not need it."

And finally, Serbian signing Nemanja Matic had this to say about Francesc Fabregas.

"Cesc is a great player, I feel good playing with him, he’s always available when I have the ball and, at this moment, he’s one of our most important players.

"He’s very easy to play with. Now I can be focused on my job, to do what the coach asks. To have Cesc next to me is very important, last season the whole team did well and now we’ve improved."
