German tabloid Bild has suggested the circumstances under which Marco Reus will leave Borussia Dortmund.
Reus has been linked with several high profile moves away from BVB, with Manchester United thought to be the favourites to land him should he ever become available for transfer.
BVB have so far relied on his commitment to the club, which he has supported since childhood, but Bild has now suggested that his departure is a very realistic possibility.
“Without the prospect of the title, the midfield star will not stay. Especially as he can go next summer for a fee of €25 million,” reports Bild.
Dortmund have suffered a miserable start to the Bundesliga season, which has seen them lose five of their first eight games, which has left the side sitting five places above the bottom of the division.
BVB are already chasing a 13 point gap from Bayern Munich at the top of the table, which leads to the realistic assessment that Champions League qualification is now the best they can hope for.
Their cause hasn’t been helped by injuries to key players such as Reus himself, but also Ilkay Gundogan who has only just returned to action after well over a year in the treatment room.
Reus has been extremely patient bin Klopp's side as he's waited for a repeat of the back-to-back titles, which saw BVB break the recent dominance of Bayern Munich.
However, that patience seems to be running thin and while Bild also suggests that BVB are doing everything to get him committed to a long term deal, it seems to be clear that if the team’s fortunes don’t improve, he’ll be the next to jump ship.
Manchester United just need to ensure they’re in a position, with Champions League football, where they offer him a better alternative than the one Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski opted for in Bayern Munich.
