Manchester United loanee Nani scored a wonderful goal for Sporting Lisbon as the downed rivals Porto 3-1 in the Portuguese Cup.
The 27-year-old returned to his former club Sporting in the summer on a season-long loan deal following a seven-year spell at United.
Despite initial promise with the Red Devils, his contribution over the past couple of seasons has been questioned by fans and pundits alike as he became renowned for being extremely inconsistent.
New boss Louis Van Gaal ultimately opted against keeping him on and used the Portuguese international winger as part of a deal to bring Argentine defender Marcos Rojo to Old Trafford.
In his first game back for Sporting, Nani had a bit of a shocker as he missed a penalty, received a yellow card and was later substituted in the 77th minute.
Since that game, though, his performances back in his native Portugal have picked up a notch and yesterday he contributed greatly to his side’s excellent victory over rivals Porto in the cup.
With the scores tied at one apiece, Nani received the ball on the edge of the area and took one touch before settling himself to fire in an unstoppable drive into the top left corner.
His superb goal for Sporting was his fourth in his past seven games, the sort of goalscoring form which prompted United to shell out €25.5 million for his services.
While it may be unlikely he will fetch a figure of such proportions for as second in his career, consistent performances of such ilk could encourage Van Gaal to give him a second chance at Old Trafford next summer.
